The Marcha do Castelo has taken part in the Great Marches of Lisbon since 1980 and has received several awards over the years, notably in 1983, when it won every prize in competition.
This year, the group presents the theme “Há Festa no Castelo” (“There Is a Celebration at the Castle”), sharing its experiences of the Lisbon festivities and highlighting their importance to the Bairro do Castelo, as the Popular Marches remain one of the city’s most unique and cherished traditions.
Solar do Castelo proudly supports the Marcha do Castelo, rooted in this historic neighbourhood that has existed since 1147, following the Christian reconquest. Within the walls of São Jorge Castle lies a cluster of traditional houses, among which stands Solar do Castelo, an eighteenth-century building constructed on the site of the former kitchens of the Palace of Alcáçovas.
